VR Bonsai Museum
summary
In VR, scale can be manipulated to the extremes, allowing people to experience microscopic or macrocosmic events right in front of their eyes. With this idea in mind, I created the experience of viewing bonsai trees (which are notable for their small size and intricate detail) at the scale of normal trees.
the experience
Guests can walk around the room and up to each of the trees. Pressing a button while near a tree allows them to listen to information about the tree and the process of creating it.
Guests can press another button to explore the bonsai tree at a larger scale. This action shrinks them down, and they appear looking up at the tree, able to walk around it and explore its intricate details.
Once they are finished exploring a tree, they can return the museum.
next steps
While this MVP offers users the full experience of exploring bonsai trees in VR, there are a number of improvements that I would like to add in future iteration:
Information about the museum and the experience within the virtual reality, so that guests with no knowledge of the experience can be informed as well.
Additional information near each tree about the process of creating it, so that guests aren’t required to listen to the auditory information available.
Additional instructions near each tree about how to interact with it.
