summary

Since I’ve been home nearly 24/7 due to COVID-19, I find myself spending more and more time gazing aimlessly into the fridge. Leaving the fridge door open, however, can significantly increase energy consumption. So I decided to create an alarm system that would go off if the door was left open for too long.

next steps

For future iterations I would make a couple changes, including:

  • Build a support that could attach the device to the bottom of a shelf or one of the inner sides of the fridge, which would free up space.

  • Test how long it takes me to reasonably get everything I need from the fridge in one go.

  • Test how much energy is wasted per second the fridge door is open.
